MISSION-ORIENTED: Our camera plane is the RANS S-12XL, a simple yet sophisticated Light Sport Aircraft with lots of wing area and a high power-to-weight ratio. Despite its unique appearance, the airplane has the conventional control qualities of a mainstream airplane AND the outstanding visibility of a helicopter. This aircraft is a great choice for our purposes because it allows us to more fully experience the wild and scenic beauty of the Big Bend. It’s the type of airplane a photo journalist might use to explore and record a great adventure. We have a few adventures of our own in mind.
POWER: Rotax 912UL, 80 horsepower, 4-stroke engine.
SAFETY: Our aircraft is equipped with a Ballistic Recovery System, giving it one of the most sophisticated safety features available. The BRS parachute is a rapid deployment device which can gently lower the entire aircraft and occupants safely to the ground. We also have a state-of-the-art WAAS-enabled Global Positioning System (GPS) with terrain awareness, and advanced communications, intercom, and camera systems.
